GREENFIELD — A 20-year-old Milwaukee man was taken into custody by the Greenfield Police Department after a high-speed chase Monday night in which the man tried to elude officers by crossing a median, swerving and driving through traffic.

The pursuit started about 6:50 p.m. Monday in the 7300 block of West Forest Home Avenue.

The vehicle initially was pulled over for a traffic violation, but the driver took off.

The chase ended in a crash, but only minor injuries were reported.

The driver was taken into custody on South 84th Street at West Layton Avenue.

A passenger in the vehicle fled on foot but was taken into custody by officers. According to Greenfield PD, the driver did not have a valid drivers license.

The driver could face charges for eluding an officer, second degree recklessly endangering safety and a traffic violation. The passenger could face a charge of resisting or obstructing officer and possession of a controlled substance with an intent to deliver.

Charges against the driver and passenger are being reviewed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

This is the 13th high speed pursuit Greenfield Police have been involved in this year. In 2018 there were 80 pursuits and in 2017 there were 104 chases.
