MILWAUKEE — Supervisors with the Milwaukee County Board are backing an effort by Colectivo Coffee Roasters employees to unionize.

County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson and supervisors Willie Johnson, Jr., Jason Haas, Eddie Cullen, Steve Shea, Joe Czarnezki, Liz Sumner, and Ryan Clancy publicly supported the effort.

"A union not only gives workers a voice on the job, but a union voice has real power and benefits all employees," they said in a joint statement.

“We encourage all Colectivo workers to sign union-authorization cards and join the union campaign at Colectivo Coffee," according to the supervisors.

The workers are aiming to unionize with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 494, based in the Milwaukee area.

Members of the Milwaukee Common Council earlier this week voiced their support for the Colectivo workers to unionize.
