MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee County Transit System bus drivers have helped save numerous lives while on the job.

Driver Chanaye Brown’s heroic act is credited with helping save residents from a burning apartment building in Milwaukee.

Brown was driving along Route 12 when she spotted flames shooting from a window near 79th and Hampton.

She stopped her bus, ran toward the building to notify residents, rushed into the burning apartment and even tried using an extinguisher to put out the fire.

Representatives from the Milwaukee Fire Department and MCTS will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. today to honor Brown.

Brown will be named honorary "Fire Chief of the Day." She also will be recognized with a Community Hero Award during MFD's annual Meritorious Service Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m.
