The Sheboygan Fire Department rescued a man whose kayak overturned in Lake Michigan Sunday morning.

The 36-year-old male was about 75 yards offshore when his kayak flipped. Strong winds and waves nearly 3 ft. high made it impossible for him to swim to shore.

Water temperature of the lake was reported to be around upper 40's to lower 50's at the time.

Upon arrival to the scene near North Point, Sheboygan Fire Department crews put on cold water survival suits and swam out to the victim. They then rescued him and pulled him to shore.

Once on shore, he was treated by paramedics and released.

The man was wearing a personal flotation device at the time of the incident that likely aided in his survival.

The US Coast Guard and City of Sheboygan Police Department also responded to the incident.
