It happened around 2:30 p.m. in an apartment building located in the 400 block of East Beaumont Avenue.
Crews on scene tell TODAY’S TMJ4 another resident who lived in the complex heard the man screaming and called 911. The man said he was stuck for around 15 minutes.
Rescue crews were able to talk to him from the bottom of the chute and get him out.
The North Shore Fire Department said this was not the 19-year-old's first attempt of sliding down the garbage chute.
“Not totally sure why he made an attempt to go down the chute, but apparently the subject had made a successful attempt to go down the chute yesterday," said Lt. Dan Tyk of the North Shore Fire Department.
