Magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit between Cuba and Jamaica registered in Wisconsin

The powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit between Cuba and Jamaica Tuesday was picked up on equipment in Wisconsin.

The earthquake registered on a seismograph in Jewell Farm, Wisconsin, which is near Dodgeville - more than 1,600 miles away from the quake's epicenter. Vibrations from the earthquake were picked up by "sensitive instruments," which includes the seismograph.

The UWM seismograph also picked up the earthquake.

The USGS says the earthquake hit at 1:10 p.m. CT and was centered 86 miles northwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and 87 miles west-southwest of Niquero, Cuba.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
