MILWAUKEE — Outside of Petet’s Fruit Market Wednesday, bags of groceries were given away to locals in need. The bags contained all the fixings to make a Thanksgiving meal.

Dortohy Williams runs Saving Ourselves Charitable Corporation, an organization that helps expecting mothers. Dorothy partnered with Pete’s Fruit Market to make the giveaway possible.

“I hope when they are taking those groceries home and sitting down to a hot meal, to let them know someone cares,” said Williams.

Over on Fond Du Lac Avenue, Amonodo Duckworth and volunteers provided free hot meals for the community. Amondo said it’s his past that has helped him realize what community is all about.

“My plan is to feed the less fortunate and show I’m blessed to give back,” said Duckworth.

There are other food giveaways happening on Thanksgiving Day, including one at Northcott Neighborhood House starting at 8:00 a.m.
