It’s a corporate partnership that goes beyond writing a check. Kohl's Associate volunteers walked into Penfield's children center on Thursday to make sure children have a warm and welcoming "home away from home." It’s deep spring cleaning that's done with love.
While the children are away at the zoo today there are more than 70 volunteers that arrive at Penfield in Milwaukee. They roll up their sleeves for four hours and give the center a little tender, loving care.
Volunteers are scrubbing down walls and wiping away any crayon or pencil marks that were made by some of these little hands.
“The Kohl's volunteers are thrilled and excited to be here. One of the things they look forward to year after year. It's really exciting to work for a company that is willing to give back to the community and especially organizations that give back to children,” said Collen Wegner with Kohl’s.
Volunteers drop in and in just a matter of hours they clean windows, organize rooms, and even assemble some furniture. Spring cleaning also means that the exterior of the center gets some fresh paint and landscaping done. These are all projects that would have taken staff days to do.
“This relationship goes beyond just being a corporate partner that has invested their time. It feels like family,” said Jason Perry with Penfield. “For more than 30 years now, Kohl’s and Penfield have been working closely to help Milwaukee families.”
Many volunteer come back year-after-year to show Kohl's cares by lending a hand and making sure that these children and their families are learning in *clean* setting.
Penfield helps some 1,500 infants and children - many who have developmental delays - with early education, health and family services
On Wednesday, Kohl’s volunteers also helped at the Ronald McDonald house in Wauwatosa.
