Demolition of Milwaukee County Exec. Chris Abele's Shorewood mansion has begun, and now people in the community can own pieces of the historic home.
Abele's decision to purchase the lot on Lake Dr. and tear it down was met with a lot of criticism from community members, but he included the Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the process in hopes of giving back.
"My fiancée, Jennifer and I love the neighborhood and that's why we are committed to a design that respects and honors it," said Abele. "We brought in Habitat because we love the work they do and wanted to make sure that they could get as much out of the deconstruction process to help their work as possible."
Items from the mansion are currently for sale and "selling fast," according to Milwaukee Habitat.
Those items include light fixtures, roofing, cabinets and other furniture.
