WAUKESHA, Wis — More than a day after a person was found dead in a house fire, investigators were back at the home Friday going through what was left.
The Waukesha County Medical Examiner's Office said an autopsy was conducted Friday. Waukesha Police Department has not yet identified the victim, their cause of death, or the fire's cause.
When first responders arrived around 5 a.m. Thursday there were flames and heavy smoke coming from the home on South University Drive. It took them eight minutes to locate the victim.
Police and Fire said they requested assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms along with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Department of Criminal Investigations, adding it was standard protocol.
