RACINE — A former Racine County Sheriff's Office deputy was sentenced Friday to six months in jail and three years of probation after pleading guilty to attempted misconduct in office and two domestic abuse charges against his wife.
Jonathan Bechman pleaded guilty to the three misdemeanor counts Friday prior to being sentenced.
The criminal complaint details two specific acts of physical violence against his wife, Jennifer Bechman, including one in which Bechman hit her approximately 20 times "as hard as he could." The complaint indicates there had been ongoing domestic violence during their 30-year marriage.

The complaint also states that while Bechman was employed by the Racine County Sheriff's Office, documents were found on his desk indicating he had attempted to use department resources to locate where Jennifer was residing. This was reported on January 8, 2026.
Both Jennifer and Jonathan Bechman read lengthy statements in court Friday.
"And I do feel that in the end, the judge really heard what I was saying," Jennifer Bechman said.

Jonathan expressed remorse, saying in part, "Jen deserved none of my manipulation."
He also addressed law enforcement, saying he "betrayed your trust and our mission."
Following Friday's hearing, Jennifer Bechman addressed Jonathan Bechman.
"As a police officer, it's been disappointing to see how you lived and how my life had to be," she said.
She also responded to his apology.
"To Jon, I would say, 'Thank you for apologizing. It meant a lot to the kids and I to hear straight from your mouth,'" Jennifer Bechman said.
She also had a message for others in similar situations.
"Do not spend a day letting them hold you down with their position. There will be people that will hear you out. There will be people on the right side of the line," she said.
According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, Jonathan Bechman ended his employment on May 1 of this year. At that time, he was on administrative leave with pay.
Bechman has until Sept. 18 to report to the Racine County Jail.
