MILWAUKEE — At the corner of 35th and Center, people in need received a hot Thanksgiving meal during the second annual Breaking Bread Community feast. Last year the event served more than 100 people and this year, they expected to feed even more.
"A lot of us, we are fortunate because we have the family we can sit down with. We can be inside of a home. We have all of that, but there are a lot of people that don't...This is a way to show some light on Center to let people know we care," said Farina Brooks, Organizer of Breaking Bread Community Feast.
There was free food and clothes for people to keep warm. Leonard Basemore has struggled with homelessness, and this meal means he can sleep with a full stomach.
"I have not eaten in two days, believe it or not, and I am extremely appreciative to these people and their kindness," said Basemore.
Leonard said this Thanksgiving Day he received more than a meal.
