Hurricane Irma delays and cancellations affect Milwaukee airport

While Hurricane Irma battered Florida, it cancelled hundreds of flight at the world's busiest airport in Atlanta. It also delayed or cancelled dozens in Milwaukee just on Monday alone.

It made for a long wait at the airport for one Waukesha County woman who was trying to pick up her friend coming from Atlanta.

"Delayed," said Mary, who did not want to give her last name. "All day."

Mary's friend started her trip in New Orleans this morning and changed planes in Atlanta.

"She's been delayed in Atlanta and she just called and said she would be in at 6:30 p.m. but now it looks more like 7:30 p.m." said Mary.

Geena Ferrill and her friends were suppose to be hanging out in Miami Monday night. But the airport is not even open there.

"Was going to be on the beach, enjoying the sun to celebrate my birthday," said Ferrill.

When they saw Hurricane Irma was heading to their vacation destination the women made a change of plans for Las Vegas.

"It was kind of hassle trying to get our money back from the airlines and the hotel. But it worked out," said Faith Moore, a friend of Ferrill's.

Despite missing out on their Florida vacation, the women say their thoughts are with the people in the storm.

"My heart goes to everyone who is there right now," said Moore.

Airports in Florida are expected to reopen for some flights Tuesday. Mary's friend did finally arrive from Atlanta after a seven hour delay.
