MILWAUKEE -- A suspect is behind bars and awaiting charges after a home owner's security camera caught him stealing a trailer from his driveway.
The incident happened in the middle of the afternoon at a house on 20th Street near College Avenue.
Jose Lechuga, the owner of the trailer, has security cameras set up around his house. The surveillance video shows the suspect get out of his car, hook the trailer onto his hitch and take off.
Little did he know, a camera was on him the whole time.
"He never noticed the camera," Lechuga said. "It's amazing to see. He moved quickly. How brazen can someone be? This is a good neighborhood. I can't believe this is happening."
Police said the man in the surveillance video has struck multiple time before. He targets homes when he thinks no one is watching, then sells or pawns the stolen trailers.
With crimes like this happening all too often, Lechuga recommends more people invest in security cameras like his.
"It's a few hundred dollars, but I was able to catch the guy on tape and give the video to police," Lechuga said. "It's worth it. You never know these days."
The security video did help detectives. The man was eventually arrested and the trailer was found.
