A Milwaukee man has been charged in the hit-and-run crash that injured a 57-year-old man.

Jerome Ealy told police he had drank at his aunt's house before making the decision to drive home on Friday. While driving, Ealy struck a 57-year-old man who was standing in the roadway near 46th and Burleigh, talking to someone in a vehicle. That man was taken to the hospital with bruising and bleeding to his head and a broken leg.

Ealy told officers he thought he "might have struck a dog" when he hit the man, and he didn't see anything so he drove to the liquor store and then home.

The man Ealy injured has been treated for bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull, two spinal fractures and fractures to both legs. He has also been intubated.

Ealy is charged with one count of hit-and-run - great bodily harm, for which he faces fines up to $50,000 and/or up to 15 years in prison.
