MCSO: Inmate escapes during work assignment

MILWAUKEE -- The search is on for an escaped Milwaukee County inmate. 45-year-old Douglas Slock of Greendale ran off Wednesday morning while on work duty at the jail.

Slock had been behind bars since late September for his fifth OWI. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department said Slock was able to get work assignments at the jail because he’s never been charged with a violent crime.

The sheriff’s department said Slock was on trash collection duty with a corrections officer around 5:00 a.m. when he ran off at a loading dock connected to the jail.

Slock’s latest run in with the law was September 30. He was arrested for his 5th OWI after a sheriff’s deputy pulled him over near Mitchel International Airport for striking a curb and swerving around traffic cones. While he admitted to drinking, he declined to perform field sobriety tests.

His previous drunk driving convictions were spread out over the past twenty years, but he’s spent time in jail for more than just OWI’s. In May, he was arrested for felony burglary at a Greendale apartment complex. He was also charged with disorderly conduct in January. Court records show the incident stemmed from an argument with his roommate about drug money.

Greendale Police urge their residents to keep an eye out for Slock since he’s from there and has several ties to the community. Slock is 5’8”, 180 lbs, with gray hair and a beard.

Sheriff Richard Schmidt said the corrections officer who was supposed to be supervising Slock has been suspended pending an investigation.
