GREENDALE — It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for a group of students dealing with a lot.

The Greendale Marching Band, like the Wisconsin Badgers are heading to Pasadena, California, for the Rose Bowl.

TODAY’S TMJ4 visited Greendale High School. The marching band was hard at work during 7th Hour. The band was fine-tuning their next big performance; the Tournament of Roses Parade.

The honor, considered among the highest-of-highs for bands like Greendale’s. The performance, however, means a lot more for a group bearing a heavy burden.

"It's been a tough few months. sure. But the band's a family," Tom Reifemberg, Greendale’s band director said.

Just over a month prior, one of their own, died by suicide. A topic, administrators said is still sore to many of the students, but has strengthened the band’s bond.

"They have really come together, and this band has become a family," said Dominic Castro, a senior.
