Spotted Cow usually gets the headlines when it comes to the beer produced at the New Glarus Brewing Company, but another concoction has managed to froth its way to the top. GQ magazine broke down the best craft beer in every state, and New Glarus' Raspberry Tart Fruit Alewas named the best in Wisconsin.

"We're thrilled," founder and president Deb Carey said Wednesday, although she hadn't even heard about the designation until we reached her at the New Glarus, Wisconsin brewery.

"I am surprised, there are an awful lot of really great beers in this state," Carey said. "With sausage makers and cheese makers, Wisconsin is a foodie haven, so any recognition is a pleasant surprise."

Carey said their cherry-flavored Wisconsin Belgian Red is usually the fruit beer that picks up most of the awards.

The company has recently started bottling Raspberry Tart in four 12-ounce bottles, which is why it may be getting more attention. It's made with Oregon berries and fermented in large oak vats.

"All of our sales go up in the summer, but the fruit beers are especially popular during the holidays because it pairs so well with meats," Carey said.
