Newly inaugurated Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says he is considering a possible gas tax increase to fund Wisconsin roads.

Evers answered questions on this topic as well as many others at a Greater Milwaukee luncheon at the University Club in downtown Milwaukee.

According to the Milwaukee Business Journal, Evers said he would "rather not have a tax increase" but that "clearly gas tax is an option on the table."

The current state gas tax stands at 32.9 cents a gallon.

The answer to whether or not the tax will increase will be answered after Evers' transportation-funding task force reviews all of their options.

Evers also made statements regarding the possible expansion of Milwaukee's downtown convention center. Evers believes that the expansion will help attract interest for the 2020 Democratic National Convention to be held in Milwaukee.
