Good Samaritans jump into action after a stolen vehicle crash on Milwaukee's south side

MILWAUKEE -- Good Samaritans jumped into action on Milwaukee's south side Saturday night following a crash involving a stolen car.

According to police, three cars were involved in the crash, and it happened just after 10pm. MPD confirmed four teens driving a stolen vehicle sped through a red light. While in the middle of the intersection, another car slammed into the stolen vehicle, flipping it on its top. As the car flipped it hit a third vehicle and caused a huge mess.

"It was something serious," Abo Miltown said.

Miltown witnessed the aftermath and captured video on his cell phone. He said he didn't see the cars collide, but saw smoke in the air and stepped out of his car to take a closer look while assisting where he could.

"Once I got there I parked and I went to help out and there was a guy flipped over in a truck," Miltown said. "We actually helped him flip [the car] over."

Miltown described the scene as horrific and Juana Gutierrez agreed. Gutierrez lives just a few houses down from where it all happened. She said she doesn't speak the best English, but allowed her sister, Erminia, to translate on her behalf.

"She saw a car up on the sidewalk and it was very twist[ed]," Erminia Gutierrez said.

The scene at Muskego and Mitchell is all clear now and things are seemingly back to normal. Except the Gutierrez sisters suggest accidents like this happen regularly in their neighborhood and they want something to be done about it.

"A lot of people don't respect, they just race down the street," Gutierrez said "There's no [speed] bump so they can't stop."

Police say the driver of the stolen car is now in custody. One of the teens fled the scene, but was later found at a hospital. Another tried to flee, but didn't get very far because of a broken leg. All four teens in the stolen vehicle suffered injuries including broken bones. The driver of the stolen vehicle is expected to be charged with a variety of crimes and the passengers may face charges as well.
