After a recent E. Coli breakout involving sunflower salad kits, Fresh Express has come forward to explain how they've taken action against the outbreak.

On Dec. 9, the CDC and FDA issued a food safety advisory in regards to Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Kit containing Salinas romaine lettuce.

"Fresh Express is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our consumers and to rigorously implementing our comprehensive food safety program throughout all operations," Fresh Express said in a statement.

According to the statement, the company is working closely with the CDC and FDA to identify a root cause of the various E. Coli breakouts.

Fresh Express stopped using Salinas romaine entirely on Nov. 22 and removed all products containing the lettuce from their store. Since Nov. 23, they have been using a non-salinas romaine in all of their products, including the Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Kit.

The CDC said at least eight people from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota have been infected with this strain of E. Coli.
