WAUKESHA — A former correctional officer at the Waukesha County Jail allegedly had sexual relations with an inmate while on duty and has since been charged with 2nd degree sexual assault, the Sheriff's Department announced Monday.
An investigation by the Sheriff's Department concluded that Matthew Herman had sexual relations with one Waukesha County inmate, and made sexual advances towards another inmate at the jail.
Following the investigation, Herman was fired from the Sheriff's Department and charged with three felony counts of 2nd degree sexual assault by a correctional officer, and one felony count of misconduct in office.
Herman is now being held at a facility outside of Waukesha County, Lt. Nicholas Ollinger said in a statement Monday.
Herman was hired in February of 2020 and assigned to the Waukesha County Jail, according to Lt. Ollinger.
His next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.
