JEFFERSON — A former Jefferson County Sheriff's Office deputy was sentenced to two years behind bars for burglarizing the homes of people who were away at family funerals.

Court records show30-year-old Janelle Gericke was sentenced to two years in state prison and three years of extended supervision.

A Jefferson County Court found her guilty of two felonies: burglary of a building or dwelling, as well as bail jumping.

A criminal complaint states Gericke entered the homes of people listed as relatives of the deceased in local obituaries, while they were attended the funerals.

Prosecutors say she entered at least six homes between 2018 and 2019.

Gericke was fired from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in July of 2019.
