FOND DU LAC -- The Fond du Lac Police Department is showing off its newest officer.

K9 Brux, a 19-month-old German Sehpherd, recently joined the force. Brux has been trained in taking down criminals, detecting drugs, and providing protection to his partner, Officer Kyle Hoefer.

Like any dog, Brux destroys any toy he's given, and police say he's even chewed up wires in the squad car.

"He can tell if I'm nervous or if I'm happy or frustrated...and when he's behind me, I'm sure he can sense the same thing," Officer Hoefer told WLUK-TV.

While you might think the K9 responds to English, the department's Twitter account explains that's not the case:

Brux will be working the second shift. Police say he's "full of energy and ready to get to work."
