A 35-year-old Fond du Lac man faces a maximum sentence of 500 years in prison for sexually assaulting children.

James Rasmussen was found guilty in Fond du Lac County court Wednesday on 44 criminal counts including sexually assaulting children and drug charges involving children, among others.

The Fond du Lac County District Attorney announced he had been found guilty after a nine-day trial.

Rasmussen was originally charged in 2015, after victims came forward saying he gave them drugs before he sexually assaulted them.

Assistant District Attorney Kristin Menzl, the lead prosecutor on the case, said in the news release:

“I’m extremely proud of the children who testified in this trial. The bravery of these children to come forward and tell their story is the reason we achieved this outcome. Justice is being served and James Rasmussen is being held accountable for his actions and the jury sent a clear message to the children that they were listened to and believed.”

Rasmussen’s bond has been revoked and a sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 8.
