WAUWATOSA — Five staff members at Longfellow Middle School in Wauwatosa have tested positive for COVID-19, the school district announced Thursday.

They will not be able to return to school until ten days have have passed, do not have a fever and are feeling an improvement in their symptoms, according to health guidelines the school district is following.

Longfellow staff members who were not in direct contact with the people who tested positive may return to the building as soon as Friday, Sept. 4, but have the option to work from home through Friday, Sept 11.

The district adds that as soon as they were notified that they had tested positive, district nurses and the county health department began contact tracing.

"The safety of our staff and students remains our top priority, and we will continue to work with local health departments to protect their health and well-being," said school district communications coordinator, Sarah Frittitta, in a statement Thursday.
