First case of coronavirus confirmed in Racine County, brings total number of active cases to 8

RACINE COUNTY — The first case of coronavirus for Racine County was confirmed Friday afternoon.

The Central Racine County Health Department said a resident of Racine County had contracted the coronavirus. The patient was exposed while traveling internationally.

The patient is being isolated at home.

“Central Racine County Health Department is actively working with this case, and CRCHD will continue to work with Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and our local partners to ensure the health and safety of our community,” said Margaret Gesner, Health Officer for Central Racine County Health Department in a press release. “It is important to note that this person is not linked with any school, childcare, or long-term care facility."

This brings the total number of active coronavirus cases in Wisconsin to 8. In Wisconsin, nine total cases have been confirmed. Eight are currently active (3 in Dane County, 2 in Fond du Lac County, and one each in Waukesha, Pierce and Racine counties) and one person has since tested negative and recovered (Dane County).
