One person was killed in a fire at a home near North Wausaukee and West Mequon roads in Mequon early Tuesday morning, authorities say.
Southern Ozaukee Fire and EMS said in a statement crews were called just before 3 a.m. for an active house fire. Mequon Road between Granville and Wasaukee roads were closed to traffic.
A dog was located after it ran back into the house. The dog is now with the Humane Society.
Firefighters found a vehicle parked at the home, believed to belong to the homeowner. Authorities contacted family members.
At around 8:30 a., crews found the victim's body in the rubble. The victim was not identified.
Firefighters from multiple departments battled the blaze for several hours.
The fire remains under investigation while the fire and police departments work together to determine what happen, according to a news release.
