A fire was reported at Wisconsin Paperboard Corporation on Milwaukee’s east side early Thursday morning.

Smoke was seen coming from the roof of the building at the business located at Newhall Street and Thomas Avenue.

Dozens of trucks were on the scene on the east and west sides of the building.

The business is located behind a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee dormitory but doesn’t appear to be close enough to cause any concern.

A fire department official said the fire is under control and that all employees were safely evacuated from the building.

Authorities believe the fire started in a paper machine which made it difficult to hit it with water. A hole was opened in the roof to provide venting, which is why smoke was seen from the outside.

There have been at least five different fires reported at the business since 1992.
