Few drivers on road during messy morning commute

Few drivers for a messy morning commute

For the better part of the morning, powerful winds and heavy snowfall made for a difficult commute for the few people on the road.

In Bayside, most of the vehicles on the road were of the plow variety. Both county and private plows continued through the early morning hours. The few cars on the road had quite a time making it through messy roads with low visibility. However, once the snow started to let up, those who had to go to work made their way out cautiously.

"I kept it at 30 mph," Lisa Helt of Menomonee Falls said. "It's 45 mph or something down Brown Deer Road over here but I kept it slow. We made it. I'm happy we made it this far. Going home, we'll see what happens."

The blowing conditions made plowing difficult. After one pass, the road could be seen but just moments later, the winds would cover an area with snow piled up on the sides of the road.

"There were a lot of bare spots because of the wind," Jeff Meinhardt of Bayside said. "That gives you a false sense of security. You got to take it so slow and a lot of room between everybody."
