Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm has deemed the actions by Milwaukee Police officers involved in a fatal shooting in October were justified.
Milwaukee Area Investigative Team reviewed a case from Oct. 10 in which Alonzo Smith was fatally shot by police on the north side near 101st Street and Bender Road.
On Friday, the DA sent a letter to MPD Chief Alfonso Morales detailing their findings that the use of deadly force was justified.
Body camera footage of the shooting was released in December.
In the video, officers command Smith to show his hands and exit the vehicle. He did not, and the letter says Smith started shooting at the officers. They fired back, fatally hitting Smith.
