Family identifies 19-year-old Milwaukee man as innocent bystander killed after police chase, crash

MILWAUKEE — A 19-year-old Milwaukee man and innocent bystander who died Thursday morning in a violent crash at 12th and Locust has been identified as the victim by his family.

Lequon McCoy was killed after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle near North 12th Street and West Locust Street.

Milwaukee Police began the pursuit of the reckless stolen vehicle near 64th and Congress about 1 a.m. They witnessed the driver disregard multiple stoplights and stop signs, nearly causing an accident on East Capitol Drive. As the driver continued traveling southbound, they disregarded another flashing red light on North 12th Street and struck a vehicle that was traveling eastbound through a flashing yellow light on West Locust Street.

Police attempted life-saving measures, but McCoy passed away at the scene.

The driver of the stolen vehicle is also a 19-year-old man. He suffered a serious injury, was taken to a local hospital and is now in police custody.
