19-year-old killed in stolen vehicle pursuit

A 19-year-old was killed early Thursday morning after a pursuit of a stolen vehicle near N. 12th Street and W. Locust Street.

Milwaukee Police began the pursuit of the reckless stolen vehicle near 64th and Congress around 1 a.m. They witnessed the driver disregard multiple stoplights and stop signs, nearly causing an accident on E. Capitol Drive. As the driver continued traveling southbound, they disregarded another flashing red light on N. 12th Street and struck a vehicle that was traveling eastbound through a flashing yellow light on W. Locust Street.

The driver who was struck was a 19-year-old Milwaukee man. Police attempted life-saving measures but he unfortunately passed away on the scene.

The driver of the stolen vehicle is also a 19-year-old man. He suffered a serious injury, was taken to a local hospital and is now in police custody.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
