BIG BEND — A 37-year-old Elkhorn man has been charged with sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, according to a criminal complaint.
Around Feb. 20, the 8-year-old alleged that Ryan C. Atchley, her mother’s boyfriend, had been abusive with her in the past, according to the criminal complaint. The girl also said her mother had been abusive with her, according to the complaint.
The girl, who was 7 during the alleged incident, said she was too afraid to disclose the information until recently and only told a school counselor from Hawthorne Elementary on Feb. 21 about the alleged sexual assault.
On Feb. 22, the girl was interviewed at the CARE Center in Waukesha and repeated her story of the alleged incident.
Atchley also has pending cases of possessing drug paraphernalia and neglecting a child. He is due in court at 10 a.m. April 1 in Waukesha County.
