GREENFIELD — Greenfield police said one man was killed and another injured when they were involved in an electrocution accident near a construction site Tuesday morning.

It happened behind the Penny Mustard furniture store by 84th and Layton, where a Landmark Credit Union is under construction.

Greenfield authorities said they got the call to respond to area just before 11 a.m.

Fire Chief Jon Cohn said when they arrived they found two subcontractors who were involved in an electrocution accident while working on a utility line for a cable provider.

Fire crews found a 36-year-old man dead inside the bucket of his truck. His co-worker, a 36-year-old man was injured trying to rescue him. He was found on the ground and was transported to Froedtert Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Cohn has a message for anyone working on utility lines.

“In any types of condition if you’re a contractor or even a person at home prevention is the best medicine in our business,” Cohn said.

We Energies had to cut power to the entire grid so that crews to safely access the man who died.

LaMaccia Group is leading the construction of the Landmark Credit Union. At this time, the company would not confirm whether the utility work had to do with its project.

Spokespeople for Landmark Credit Union and LaMaccia Group both said that their “thoughts and prayers” are with the families of the victims.

The incident remains under investigation. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, known as OSHA, is leading the investigation with the help of Greenfield police.
