WEST ALLIS -- An alert West Allis man called police to save the lives of two people he thought were overdosing, but only one person survived.

Mark Gruichich, owner of a dry cleaning shop, spotted a man and woman in distress. He said they parked in the street near his dry cleaning business at S. 95th Street and W. Greenfield Avenue.

First responders worked to save their lives, but the woman died in the car.
"You hear this every day. I wish it would have had a different outcome, but hopefully one life is saved," said Sam Gruichich, who called police for help.

The Milwaukee Medical Examiner will check for drugs in this woman's system.

Based on last month's numbers, the ME's office reports they are on track to log 444 drug overdose deaths this year.
