A 36-year-old Dalton man has been arrested for OWI causing injury after driving into Milwaukee River in Saukville late Saturday night.

Saukville Police responded to the area of County Highway W just north of State Highway 33 to reports of a vehicle in the water.

Police say that the driver went around multiple road closed signs and almost completely submerged under water. With the help of five agencies, all five occupants were rescued.

Four of the occupants were transported to the hospital and treated for hypothermia. In addition to OWI causing injury, the man was also arrested on charges of probation violation and an active warrant.

Police are referring charges of four counts of recklessly endangering safety to the District Attorney Office. The Saukville Fire Department Chief Jim Schlegel said that although the river is only a couple feet deep, the ice currents create making it difficult, even for vehicles, to maintain control.
