The driver that died in the fiery I-94 crash in Racine County last week reportedly murdered the owner of the car he was driving, according to law enforcement in Illinois.

The Winnebago County Sheriff said the car was connected to a death in Rockford, Illinois last weekend. On Thursday they confirmed the suspected killer was driving the victim’s car, according to the Rockford NBC station WREX.

24-year-old Destiny Tolodxi was found dead of blunt force trauma last Friday in Rockford, and authorities say her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old Elmer Aguilar, was their only suspect.

The sheriff said after killing Tolodxi, Aguilar panicked and drove to Wisconsin where he crashed and died in Racine County.

At the time of the crash, the body was burned beyond recognition. However, authorities said Thursday tattoos were used to identify the body as Aguilar.
