MILWAUKEE — The Department of Public Works in Milwaukee believes it will take several days to finally handle the overnight snowfall and clear out most, if not all, snowed in main and side streets.

As it is every year, the cleanup effort will be significant. The department said nearly 300 units are already working to clear all the roads... they just ask.. for a little patience.

As forecast, the snow has arrived. Up to about ten inches were measured in some parts of the TMJ4 News viewing area.

“We are in full snow-fighting mode,” said Jeff Polenski, DPW Commissioner.

With the snow accumulating throughout the day, much work needs to be done to clear streets.”

“Shoveling out these cars. Helping the neighbors shovel their cars,” said Solier Gonzalez, who spent his afternoon helping others.

Another resident, Sara Delgado said she cleared an alley to help others.

“I already cleaned my sidewalk,” she said. “I’m going to try to clean my alley for everybody, not just myself.”

Also shoveling was DPW...

"We've had equipment out since last night. We had our garbage packers actually called in early this morning and working on residential streets. but it's a lot of snow. gonna take us a little while to move through the city,” Polenske said.

Polenske said about 370 units are out working to clear streets during this snow emergency. The overnight parking cleanup with be interrupted for one night as two consecutive odd-numbered nights of street parking approach; Jan. 31 and February 1.

“So, we’re actually going to have to pause our snow emergency for February first and conduct the second night of our snow emergency on February second,” Polenske said.

There will also be no garbage pickup on Monday, DPW announced.

DPW also said it’s partnered with Milwaukee Public Schools to provide extra parking at these locations from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.:
