FORT ATKINSON — The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Jefferson County on Tuesday night.

Later Wednesday, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado with peak winds of 80 mph in Fort Atkinson. The tornado track started to the west of Fort Atkinson and ended on the southeast side of Fort Atkinson.

Major clean-up efforts are underway in the City of Fort Atkinson after the severe storms in southeastern Wisconsin on Tuesday night.

The City of Fort Atkinson Office of Emergency Management completed its initial damage assessment Wednesday morning.

So far, they've found six homes with minor damage and two homes with moderate damage to their roof, siding and windows.

Dozens of trees were uprooted in the storm and more than 100 others have limb damage.

More than 10 cars were also found with trees on top of them.

Those numbers are likely to change once more detailed surveys are completed.

Most of the damage is concentrated along Riggert Road.

At this point, crews have checked all homes in the area and all the streets are passable.

Officials are asking people to avoid the area so crews can continue their clean-up work.
