WISCONSIN — Several central Wisconsin counties are at risk for extreme fire danger Sunday and the DNR has issued a Red Flag Warning.
The DNR has issued a Red Flag Warning for these counties: Jackson, La Crosse, Trempealeau, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Marquette, Waushara, Wood, Portage, Waupaca and Green Lake.
These red flag warnings are issued when weather conditions create especially dangerous wildfire conditions. These weather conditions include low humidity, warm temperatures, and gusty winds.
While these counties are the only ones with extreme fire dangers, much of the state is still under a very high fire danger. However, rain is expected later this week.
Additionally, the DNR is continuing to suspend burning across the state. If you are planning on taking part in any activities that could lead to wildfires, like a bonfire or grilling, the DNR is asking you to be especially careful.
According to a press release, in the past week the DNR has responded to nearly 50 wildfires. Fire control officials are on high alert all across the state due to the current conditions.
