MILWAUKEE — Warmer weekend weather prompted several to get outdoors on Saturday, after a week filled with dreary conditions.

From fisherman, to joggers, even bicyclists among others made getting outside a priority as temperatures rose above 70 degrees.

“We were going a little bit stir crazy with the rain and everything," said Susan Bushon who was walking with her husband. The couple uses the exercise to clear their mind during these uncertain times.

Another local resident took advantage of the warm weather to wash his car.

"It’s been the first time I’ve been able to do it in over a month," said Gregory Barnes.

However, officials remain deeply concerned about these types of activities while in such close proximity to others. As of Saturday afternoon, Wisconsin has seen 7,660 total cases of the novel coronavirus.

"It's an important reminder that COVID, 19 is still present and still widespread in our community," said Dr. Ben Weston, Director of Medical Services for the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced the reopening of State Parks on May 1st. Other recreational land remains closed, as health officials attempt to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"Social distancing is as important as ever, particularly as the weather warms," said Weston.
