DEVIL'S LAKE — Law enforcement is searching for a suspect after a 24-year-old man was found dead in Devil's Lake State Park Wednesday.

Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister said in an update Thursday that first responders found the victim's body along a trail. The man had clearly died from "homicidal violence," the sheriff says.

A suspect has since been identified as a man, between 5’10” and 6’00”, who was wearing a dark-colored head covering and a dark-colored face covering. The suspect left the victim walking west on the Grottos trail toward the south shore parking lot at Devil's Lake, according to Sheriff Meister.

Devil's Lake was closed Wednesday, but has since reopened to the public.

If you know anything about the homicide or the suspect, or took pictures near where the incident occurred, you are urged to call Sauk County Crime Stoppers at 1888-TIP-SAUK (847-7285) and provide that information.

An autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Thursday. The investigation is active and ongoing, Meister adds.

The Sheriff's Office also released images showing where the homicide happened:
