WALWORTH COUNTY -- We have new information about the Walworth County Deputy who shot and killed a man last month in the Town of East Troy.
Juan Ortiz shot and killed 21-year-old Christopher Davis in the parking lot of Roma's Restaurant during a drug investigation. The incident led to a high speed chase on I-43 that ended with a manhunt in Muskego.
Juan Ortiz has been with the department since May 2012. Documents obtained by TODAY'S TMJ4 show Ortiz has a clean record.
In 2014, the 30 year old was praised for his work. One citizen wrote a letter saying, "special thanks to Deputy Juan Ortiz who was very kind to evaluate the status of the dog and help me load him into my vehicle."
In 2015, a different resident wrote in about Ortiz and another deputy, "your officers did their job in a professional way, I appreciate that very much."
The record shows the Sheriff praised the deputy earlier this year, "you are to be particularly commended for your dedication and willingness to work the hours you did when the weather was so challenging."
The Walworth County Sheriff's Office presented Ortiz with a lifesaving award in 2014.
The record shows the deputy was placed on paid administrative leave for three shifts following the shooting. A press release from the Sheriff's Office says Ortiz is on administrative duty while the Department of Justice investigates.
