The current Mayor of Madison, Paul Soglin, is running for the Democratic nomination for governor.
Soglin is Madison's longest-serving mayor, serving the city for more than 20 years. In the midst of his political career in 1979 and 1980, Soglin was a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Political Background: Soglin was elected to Madison's Common Council in 1968. He was re-elected in 1970 and 1972, and then elected Mayor of Madison in 1973 and served until 1979. He was re-elected for mayor in 1989 and served until 1997. He was elected as mayor again in 2011.
