Coquette Cafe, a French restaurant in the Third Ward, is closing after 19 years in business.

The bistro is located at 316 N Milwaukee St. and was a popular destination for many Milwaukee residents.

The cafe posted on Facebookon Wed, Feb 21 breaking the news and thanking the community for their patronage.

Many Facebook commenters were surprised saying they were sad to see it go and will miss the Cafe's famous French onion soup.

Our partners at the Milwaukee Business Journalcalled the cafe to confirm.

"Unfortunately, we have had to close the restaurant for good,” the restaurant's voicemail message said to the Journal. "We apologize from the bottom of our hearts. We thank you for your many years of patronage. We love you and will miss you.”

Sanford and Angie D'Amato started the restaurant in 1999 and operated it for 11 years until deciding to sell their it to their promising employees Chef Nick Burki and Chef Chris Hatleli in 2010.

Nick and Chris had 15 years combined experience working for the D'Amatos when they were given the restaurant.
