SHOREWOOD — A teen girl killed in a Dane County crash Sunday morning has been identified.

Megan Frieseke, 17, died in a multi-car crash near Cottage Grove. Her twin sister, Emily Frieseke, is still in the hospital. Three others were also injured.

“I feel like there’s going to be a lot of talk about it,” Dana Alnejaimi said.

It’s the first time in a week hundreds of students will pile into classrooms at Shorewood High School — except this time, at least one desk will be empty.

“I think there’s a lot of mourning that goes on, and I think students will find a way to tribute her,” Bella Glenn said.

Ninth grade student Bella Glenn said, though they walked the same halls, she didn’t know Megan, but her cousin did.

“(When my cousin got the call) she cried in the driveway of some random stranger's house for a little bit,” Glenn said.

According to state troopers, three cars were involved in the crash, and two lost control. One of the cars crashed through a median and slammed into the car Megan was in.

Four others were injured. One of the four, Megan’s twin sister, Emily, remains at UW-Madison Hospital under care of physicians. The school also offered counselors for grieving students and staff — a resource psychiatrist Dr. Bruce Axelrod considered necessary.

“The school needs to stop business as usual and recognize this is a very catastrophic event, not only for the family but for all the friends of these girls,” Axelrod said.
