The city of Milwaukee is showing love to more than 83,000 city employees this week: Milwaukee Employee Appreciation Week.
The kick-off celebration happened at Red Arrow Park with more than 1,000 employees in attendance.
The main organization behind this week's event, Milwaukee Downtown Bid #21, partners with numerous local and county businesses to offer free food, games, and trinkets.
Almost every business seemed to crowd the park's walkways encouraging visitors to win something or just stop by and learn a "fun-fact" about Milwaukee.
Even though Milwaukee County Transit Systems' Communications Manager Jacqueline Zeledon had to work the booth all day. She says she and her co-workers still felt appreciated. She even says visitors gave equal appreciation to MCTS.
"Yes. People definitely appreciate MCTS because we connect hundreds of thousands of people to work each day," said Zeledon.
Nick Wiltgen works for the Milwaukee Health Department and says he definitely feels appreciated. He admits initially he and his colleagues weren't sure what was happening at the park.
"I kinda just let it go for a while. But then, I thought oh I gotta get part of that. Especially when people are coming back with food and who doesn't like freebies?" said Wiltgen.
