MILWAUKEE — One Milwaukee Public Schools teacher will be recognized Thursday night by Grammy award winning artist Chance the Rapper.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and Chance the Rapper has teamed up with Box Tops for Education to recognize outstanding teachers who have shown dedication and creativity in helping their students.
These recognition are a part of Chance's "The Twilight Awards," a live show on his Instagram page where he recognizes these teachers. Also during this show, Chance will donate $300,000 to teachers and schools on behalf of Box Tops for Education.
Chance has also gotten involved in helping Chicago Public Schools. He donated $1 million to the schools in 2017 and personally connected with students and teachers at the institutions. After talking to teachers and students, he realized teachers need to be recognized for their achievements.
According to a press release from Business Wire,"He quickly realized the need to both recognize and celebrate the work these educators do for students, their families and the community both inside and outside the classroom. To acknowledge and honor them, he developed the idea for “The Twilight Awards,” a national award show highlighting their dedication to students across the country."
This award show will take place at 7 p.m. on May 6, 7, and 8. Just follow @ChancetheRapper on Instagram to watch live.
