BURLINGTON -- Flood waters are finally receding in most areas hit hardest by the storm and now most communities are focused on recovery efforts.

The devastation continues to run deep, but fortunately, so many groups and organizations are dedicated to lending a helping hand to the thousands of flood victims.

Love Inc. is one of those organizations. The nonprofit celebrated 33 years in Burlington this year, and its mission to help others has intensified as so many in the Burlington community are now in need.

Saturday the group spent the day handing out food, water, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials. Terri Plachy, office manager at Love Inc. said, she and her team have been able to help those forced to leave their homes find temporary shelter but to continue this effort, they're asking for donations from the public --namely, cash donations and grocery store gift cards.

“Those funds will be used to get that lodging," Plachy said.

"Maybe [some victims] need financial assistance other than food and water to replace those things," she continued.

According to Plachy, currently, Love Inc. needs help assisting people who facing the following difficulties:

1)  People who temporarily stayed with family or friends, but now need to find a new place to stay while they are rebuilding their lives.  Cash donations to Love, Inc. are desperately needed right now to help them provide these families with temporary vouchers.

2)  People who need emergency food because their perishable food was spoiled due to no electricity.  Grocery gift cards and cash donations to Love, Inc. are greatly needed at this time to help some of these people.

3.  People who need help cleaning up from the floods.  Some of the people needing help are elderly or otherwise unable to do this work on their own.  Unfortunately, Love, Inc. is not able to send Love, Inc. volunteers over to these places to help.

Love Inc. is located at 466 S. Pine St. in Burlington. The group will open its doors again Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and return to its regular business hours Monday.
